With the help of some of his indie rock pals, Sage Francis has crafted a new LP dubbed Li(f)e* that sets its cross-hairs on “a culture of hypocrisy and organized religion.” The Providence, Rhode Island MC has never been one to stray from the political or societal commentaries as he’s tackled topics ranging from runaways to capitalism and everything in between.
And over the years, he’s gained more credibility among the indie rock and hip-hop crowds alike. But for this album, he brings a more rock-oriented approach by enlisting the help of Chris Walla, of Death Cab for Cutie; Jim Becker and Tim Rutili, of Califone; former Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle; DeVotchka; and members of Calexico and Sparklehorse.
Li(f)e is due out on Anti- May 11.
*Longtime fans of Sage will recognize this upcoming album’s title as a reference to lyrics from “The Cure,” one of his best tracks as a member of Non-Prophets.
