First there were bands naming themselves after songs of bands I love to remind me how old I'm getting. Now there are whole labels! Range Life Records (just wildly guessing it's a nod to the Pavement classic), a little upstart out of Lawrence, Kansas, has inked a distribution deal with that behemoth of Midwest indiedom, Mr. Conor Oberst's own Saddle Creek. Range Life's first release will be the self-titled debut from White Flight, out March 6th. The label describes it as "envelope-pushing bedroom pop" (Postal Service reference?) made by Justin Roelofsn (the Jesus looking dude to the left), who used to be the main man in the band The Anniversary. The album is currently streaming here. Range Life plans on keeping things local, as future releases will be from fellow Lawrencians Fourth of July and 1,000,000 Light Years.
i will listen if assured that it bears little to no resemblance to the postal service.

rest assured, there's no resemblance. (thankfully.)really, it's an awesomely strange lo-fi pop record with a ton of broken-down drums and twinkling melodies all over the place. basically everyone I've played it for has been like, "i don't quite know what to make of this, but it's great."
AJ Wolosenko
Yep. One of my favorite albums of '06.
Dave Park
okay then. i will listen. because of AJ, not Dave. take that, park!
Mike Krolak
oh, never mind...i've been misreading this post the whole time. I didn't realize it was the white flight record. i've heard this already. it is good.
Everyone should listen to this album.
AJ Wolosenko
