Ryan Adams has another tantrum

After his 2003 First Avenue meltdown, one would think that Ryan Adams would be on his best behavior when visiting Minneapolis. Not so much. Adams threw what can only be described as his typical fit during a sold-out show at the State Theatre on Thursday night. After complaing about the sound throughout the night, moving his monitors, microphone and guitar peals, Adams announced his last song, left the stage and refused to play an encore. Several fans booed this decision, but at least a little bit of this behavior should be expected from an artist with as much going on as Adams. He probably had to get out of there and record some songs about trying to be Gram Parsons.

Ugh jesus. Give a dude a break. What you've failed to mention was that he had already played for 70 minutes.

No shit. I don't understand how NOT playing an encore if the sound system was bad having a tantrum.

What a lame post. Nice attempt at a joke at the end considering I can personally think of around fifty bands who sound like and were more influenced by Parsons than Adams. Way to take a cheap shot at and easy target. I thought Prefix had some standards with its posts. Guess I was wrong.

Well, I'm glad to have started a little discussion. As for this being lame, I'm not so dure about it. Let me say first that I am a Ryan Adams fan. But we also should talk about value for the dollar. If I go out and support an act by buying a ticket, a CD, etc., should that act not do its best to put on the best show possible? Sure, the sound might have been off, but how many times in life do things go all the way right? I would LOVE to work three or four hours in front of a mostly adoring audience. There are about eighty million things he could have done instead of refuse to play an encore. That didn't make any statement to the sound guy. That only shortchanged the people who had paid money to see the show.

but would you love to play three- or four-hour sets every night for five months straight?

You only need to play a ninety minute to two hour set. I was figuring in sound checks, travel time, etc.

I'd just settle for decent grammar in my day-to-day blog reading experience. Regardless, it's funny how no one ever picked on Cat Power the way they do Ryan Adams. If you want to find a rip-off artist let's go at her first. Maybe I am too cynical but I can't believe everyone is buying her "I was addicted to booze" excuse for the YEARS of crappy shows where she might not even make it through one song and she never refunded anyone a dime for it. But, like I said: Ryan Adams = Easy Target. Though, Mr. Burr, I think some chick at Pitchfork has the market cornered on making a name for yourself by attacking (or whining about) Ryan Adams.

I can take someone attacking my opinion of Ryan Adams, but my grammar? Surely you jest.
