Ryan Adams calls out The Killers, slap fight possibly in the works

For a while, hip hop beefs were a matter of genuine concern, but fights among rock stars are almost always of the David Lee Roth / Van Halen, hilarity ensues variety. So feel free to enjoy the latest comments by rock troubadour Ryan Adams, pontificating in the five minutes he has free between recording albums on Las Vegas punching bags the Killers:

"Fame is an unnatural construct and those who go in search of it are the least likely to find it. I mean, really, does anyone want to sit through a show by The Killers? What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, unfortunately with the exception of The Killers."

Hopefully this will get Brandon Flowers to put on his fancy fighting jacket and come looking for trouble, but Ryan Adams should be aware that criticizing The Killers is like dynamiting fish in a barrel. If he wants to gain any tough guy cred for calling out other artists, he should know enough not to pick on the nerdiest kid on the playground.  [Angry Ape]

That title cracked me up. Ryan Adams' quote is pretty funny too.

The Killers' response:

----Alt-rock-country badboy Ryan Adams was recently quoted in the British press as saying The Killers were only in it for the fame and fortune: “I mean, really, does anyone want to sit through a show by The Killers?”

When told this yesterday, both Flowers and Keuning refused to take the bait.

“He’s probably never been to a Killers show,” said Flowers before adding: “I’m not even going to start. It’s stupid. It doesn’t do anybody any good. Like that comment that he just made isn’t doing us any good and it’s not going to do him any good. He’s going to wake up in a few days after being asked about it a million times and he’s going to regret it. It’s better to just stay out of it. He needs a little press, maybe?”

“What a tacky thing to say,” added Keuning. “Well, we’re in it for that (fame and fortune) and a lot more. We actually enjoy our music and everyone at our show does too.”----

I can't believe Brandon was able to hold back. Pretty impressive considering that mouth of his.

The Killers sorta took the higher road.

Hopefully it's a ruse. Adams lets his guard down, and then WHAMMO! If people keep saying Floers doesn't have soul... he might actually be a soldier.

I wish Ryan and Liam would get into a war of words.
The battle would be epic, then they could make peace with a duet of Wonderwall.

bottom line: musicians should be more respecful and appreciative to other musicians. All of this is so ridiculous. Obviously, Ryan Adams has not been to a Killers performance and shouldn't comment on something he knows nothing about. It would help his case a lot more if the killers were bad. As much as his dylan-esque-folk-is-superior-to-any-other-styles motto helps him through, saying that the killers only motives are fame and fortune is hypocritical. The "holier than thou" is so unattractive and self-righteous.

I recently listened to a Ryan Adam's album and must say that his dylan-esque style should stay out of the Killers's business. Adams should get off his high horse and realize that you don't have to be folky to be good. It would help Adam's case if the killers were bad, too. I have been to a Killers show and yes, it may be "flashy" but it was unbelievable. He really should know what he's talking about and spend less effort on making others feel inferior. As for discussing their reason was only for fame and fortune...hello, Ryan Adams...as much as you deny it, the only reason you said that was to attract more publicity. Musicians should be more appreciative as well as respectful to the vast array of music and remember to be nice.

We second Liz in saying that Ryan Adams needs to get off his high horse. Not only have we never heard of him before, but bringing attention to himself by bashing other artists makes him look like an arrogant ass, and will likely burn a lot of bridges and make it quite difficult to have a long-running and successful career.

Who is ryan adams anyway? I've never heard of him, and if it weren't for this comment I probably never would have. I'm a huge fan of the Killers and would LOVE to sit through one of their shows any day, however about this ryan adams dude, you couldn't pay me to see him after that comment.

Ryan is a genius.
It's good you don't know him.

Genius is an overused term.

If you dont know Ryan Adams then you dont know much about music then do you?

to say the least, Ryan is over his head with a comment like that, which he did address in his blog, and apologized for profusely, but of course, why would anyone in the press go so far as to say anything other than something that can rattle the change in your pockets that you'd spend on a Killers song on iTunes? myself, being a sometimes listener of the Killers, but first to say much of it is lousy, cooked up sh*t.. and a longtime Ryan Adams fan, since the early days, big mouth and all, his 'holier than thou' attitude is also some cooked up sh*t, simmered by the comments of some who, even though they've never heard of him, much less, heard his music, have no problem having a take on him, not only as a actual artist, but a person.. now who is 'holier than thou'? the Killers took a high road on a comment that probably never should've been made public as it was, just like miss america shouldn't have licked a nipple at a bar in front of a camera.. the internet does wonders for a persona... anyway, if you had 5 seconds to spare, pick a random song, it'll blow the seqoined cowboy boots off any Killers song... then again, nevermind, i don't wanna have to compete with you for seats to the next show...
