The Prefix opinion about Russell Brand’s hosting job at the 2008 VMAs is sharply divided. The charismatic British comedian may have apologized for his promise ring jibes, but his turn as host has found favor among the MTV hierarchy. Ratings for the VMAs soared in comparison to last year, and MTV believes that Brand may be partly responsible for the rise.
“MTV told me they want me to do it again. Afterwards they were really thrilled,” Brand said. “There was a 20 per cent increase in viewers from last year’s show.” The star of Forgetting Sarah Marshall is set to appear alongside Adam Sandler, Courtney Cox, and Guy Pearce in the forthcoming comedy feature Bedtime Stories, but Brand is reluctant to commit to another VMAs ceremony.
“The VMAs are the hardest thing I have ever done and I will think very carefully before accepting their kind offer of doing it again,” Brand said, before admitting that he “spent a lot of time suppressing the urge to scream a career ending remark during the show.” [Gigwise]
