It's been good news/bad news lately for British comedian Russell Brand. Even though he was forced into a rushed apology, Brand received good notices (from those who matter) for his skewering of the Jonas Brothers at the Video Music Awards. On the other hand, he was then suspended from his BBC radio show for pulling a similarly themed prank phone call. His luck held true with movies, as Brand's turn in Forgetting Sarah Marshall has been discovered on home video, but his most recent appearance was in Disney's forgettable Bedtime Stories. It's hard, then, to know what to make of "The Chugga Chugga Song," Brand's first foray into novelty dance music. The song, which comes complete with an associated dance, probably won't be a high point for Brand, so, given his recent luck, he can probably expect some eventual success to balance out the indignity of joining comedians like Sam Kinison and Rodney Dangerfield in the novelty music game. I wonder, however, if he considered that "The Chugga Chugga Song" could actually be the high point. I shudder to think what soul-killing defeat could make a novelty music number look good. "The Chugga Chugga Song" is friggin' hilarious. He used to play it on his radio show right before it was canceled.
