Yesterday we reported that Run-DMC is "definitely back together," per a source close to the band. And today we can confirm those reports, since the group will be performing at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin.
The festival, in its seventh year, will go down November 2-4 at Auditorium Shores. Run-DMC will join previously announced artists Atlas Sound, Baroness, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and Starfucker, along with Bob Mould, Rakim, Danny Brown, and more. A full lineup and schedule will be announced later.
Run-DMC went on hiatus in 2002 following the death of Jason "Jam-Master Jay" Mizell, and the group has declined numerous offers to reform ever since. But surviving members Joseph "Run" Simmons and Darryl "DMC" McDaniels are reuniting in part for Jay himself, with a portion of the proceeds they'll receive going to Jay's arts organization, the JMJ Foundation For Music.
DMC will also perform solo during the festival, previewing tracks off his new album with his own live band.
