In the grand tradition of ABBA and Billy Joel (and, to be fair, The Beach Boys and Bob Dylan), Run-DMC may be next in line to have their songs and biographies translated into a Broadway play. According to Variety, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons are in meetings to discuss the possibility of a Run-DMC-based musical that will trace the group (including Jason "Jam-Master Jay" Mizell, the victim of a still unsolved 2002 murder)'s ascent to become America's first mainstream rappers. Paula Wagner of Chestnut Ridge Productions told the magazine:
"I feel their story lends itself perfectly to the stage. This project has been a passion of mine for some time and I couldn't be more thrilled to be working with them."
Wagner, by the way, is the producer of the films Mission: Impossible, The Last Samurai and Vanilla Sky. Which brings the risk of a Tom Cruise cameo dangerously high, but let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best. [Variety via The Daily Swarm]
