Here’s some sad news this Thanksgiving—the diminutive Ronnie James Dio, former Black Sabbath frontman and leader of the mighty Dio, has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. Dio had a U.K. tour set to start in November, but that was canceled last week, and now the reason behind that decision has emerged.
Dio’s wife, Wendy, talked to Blabbermouth about the diagnosis. "We are starting treatment immediately at the Mayo Clinic,” she said. “After he kills this dragon, Ronnie will be back on stage, where he belongs, doing what he loves best, performing for his fans."
"Long live rock and roll, long live Ronnie James Dio,” she continued. “Thanks to all the friends and fans from all over the world that have sent well wishes. This has really helped to keep his spirit up." Let’s hope for a speedy recovery for Ronnie. In the meantime, here he is performing over the opening credits of Tenacious D’s Pick of Destiny.
