About the only thing left intact from the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival is the yellow Yardbirds t-shirt that music journalist Greg Shaw wore during the event. The shirt is now up for auction and expected to fetch around $4,000. Experts attribute the hefty price to the fact that the shirt comes from the pre-merchandising era. The only people receiving the shirts were on the crew, and they mostly threw them away.
I'm not sure what's dumber, paying $4,000 dollars for a shirt that will sit under glass like The Death of Superman or a Barry Bonds rookie card, or going to Urban Outfitters and shelling out twenty five bucks for a 'distressed' Pink Floyd shirt. I, of course, would only consider paying top dollar for the exact Dinosaur Jr. shirt I wore every day in college until it fell apart. And I'd do it again... [Idolator]
