I’ll just go ahead and spoil this one. If anyone didn’t know that after forty-something clicks through a gallery of various man-mane manifestations that the end result would be Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill of ZZ Top, they probably just aren’t interested in facial follicles at all. The real irony is that the drummer in the band, he of the mustache and perm, is actually named Frank Beard, which is kind of a head-scratcher.

Indie rock is well-represented in the list, with Will Oldham taking second place with his rampant ginger hair collective. Other standouts include the total neck beard of Band of Horses’s Ben Bridwell, the prodigious whiskers of Iron and Wine’s Sam Beam, and Devandra Banhart’s neu-hippie bird nest.  Though the twenty encompasses some pretty impressive beards, my personal favorite, Steve Earle’s leftist facial coif, was somehow left off the list.
