There have been numerous bogus rumors and half-truths circulating about the track listing for the heavily-anticipated Rock Band 2 game, including a now mostly debunked YouTube video last week. But throughout the muck there has been a song alternately referred to as "Shacklers" and "Shackler's Revenge." The Times is now reporting that the song, which was originally attributed to former Guns N' Roses guitarist Buckethead in the rumor mill, is actually a new GNR song, off their perpetually-delayed Chinese Democracy.
There's a lot of significance to the story. First, it seems that we'll be hearing material off Chinese Democracy before China actually becomes a democracy, pending another Tiananmen Square at the Olympics. It alson signifies the full recognition by former metal greats that their recent resurgence can be credited almost entirely to the video game industry. This is the first time a band has used a rhythm game to promote new material, as opposed to collect royalties for older stuff.
