R.I.P. The Knack's Doug Fieger

Doug Fieger, lead singer of the Knack, and co-writer of theb and's biggest hit "My Sharona," died yesterday after a long struggle with cancer. He was 57.

Fieger and The Knack broke big in 1979, when "My Sharona" hit number on on the US singles charts, leading many outlets to call them the "next Beatles." Fieger had been playing profesisonally since age 12, and landed a record deal with RCA in the late '60s as a teenager. [Daily Swarm]

The Knack

The Knack was a warning call for what happens when "power pop" comes closer to the regular kind of "pop." They've gotten too much of a bum rap by some people, and not enough of a bum rap by others.

Either way, 57 is way too young. Sad.
