Michael Davis, bassist for widely influential Michigan-based rock group MC5, died Friday afternoon at a medical center in Chico, Calif. of liver failure. He was 68.
Spinner reports that he had been hospitalized a month ago for liver disease after speaking with his wife, Angela Davis. Michael Davis was of course best known for playing bass in one of the most ahead-of-their-time bands ever in MC5. Although, he also played with other members of MC5 in an off-shoot project called MKT-MC5.
Apparently Davis, who also produces, was planning on travelling to Belgium with punk musician Sonny Vincent, of the Testors, the Extremes, and other outfits.
Our thoughts are with the Davis family. You can watch MC5 play their biggest hit, “Kick Out The Jams,” below. [Spinner]
