Billy Strange, who is best known for his work with Elvis Presley and Nancy Sinatra, passed away yesterday in Nashville, Tenn. He was 81.
Even if his name doesn’t jump out at you as instantly recognizable, Strange had quite the illustrious career as a songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist. In addition to co-writing several of Presley’s biggest singles, he also composed the soundtrack for two of the King’s films.
Strange also made notable contributions to the works of Nancy Sinatra, the Beach Boys, Nat King Cole, and Randy Newman, among many others. For one, that’s his guitar you hear on Sinatra’s famous “These Boots Are Made For Walking” along with most of the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds. [FACT]
