Rilo Kiley Calls It Quits

When Rilo Kiley drummer Jason Boesel told Paste that the band was on hiatus last year, he didn’t say it with any sort of grim underlining. It just seemed like they need a break, mostly because members of the band, especially frontwoman Jenny Lewis, had solo projects. He also said that they were working on a compilation of unreleased material and that “[i]t’s been fun hanging out with everyone.”

So everything seemed fine, right? Apparently, it wasn’t, because today guitarist/singer Blake Sennett announced that Rilo Kiley is in fact done, broken up, over.

In an interview with Spinner, Sennett explained that “there was a lot of deception, disloyalty, greed and things I don’t really want to submit myself to” in regards to Rilo Kiley. And he decided that he couldn’t continue to put himself in that situation, so he simply said, “Fuck that, I can’t do this anymore,” and left the band.

Sennett didn’t name any single member of the group as being the source of the greed or disloyalty. But he did admit that their relationship “was degrading to some certain extent,” though no one person was at fault. “It was our fault as bandmembers, or partners, or friends,” he said.
