Rihanna, Drake Lead 2012 VMA Nominations

On Thursday, September 6, MTV will air its Video Music Awards live from LA's Staples Center. It's always a star-studded scene, and they've announced the nominees in the fifteen different competing categories. Mostly, it's Rihanna and Drake, mirroring their own personal rises over the music scene of the past year or so.

Both artists received five nominations each, but if you include the videos that feature Rihanna (seemingly all of them), her nomination total jumps to eleven. She's like the Michael Phelps of the VMAs (obligatory Olympic joke)! Katy Perry has four nominations, and electronic artists like Skrillex, Avicii makes a mark in the debut of the "Electronic Dance Video" category.

Alicia Keys and One Direction have been announced as the first performers for the VMAs, with the former debuting a new track during the airing. Right now, fans can vote for their favorites (except in the professional categories) at the VMAs website. Below, check out all the nominations, and tell us who you think will take home the gold.
