Rich unveils election theme song, “Raising McCain”

John Rich, one half of the genre-bending country duo Big and Rich (“Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)”), has penned a theme song for presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain, who was in attendance for its first performance.  Titled “Raising McCain,” Rich said that the song, which describes McCain’s experience as a prisoner of war and touts his plan for the country, “offers him something that he didn't have, a rally song, one that really captures that maverick spirit.”

Though Rich’s song is probably on the whole more appropriate than Ludacris’s ode to Obama, the singer has made some remarks about gay marriage that won’t help McCain get any moderate votes. Given that the only other musician to endorse McCain has been Burt Bacharach, however, the candidate probably made the right call on accepting the theme song.
