RIAA staffs anti-piracy position with former FBI agent
The RIAA is very quickly turning into a Jerry Bruckheimer production. After highlighting their “physical antipiracy unit” in a recent interview, the RIAA has hired an ex-FBI special agent to coordinate their efforts against illegal downloading. Kathy Leodler, a twenty-three year FBI veteran and former San Diego bureau chief, will serve as a liaison between the RIAA and law enforcement agencies engaged in investigations relating to both physical and online musical piracy. Brad Buckles, RIAA‘s executive vice president of antipiracy, said in a statement that Leodler’s “ability to utilize sophisticated techniques and tactical response will be a huge asset to the hard work we do to further our mission.” We wonder if this move might be an effort to plug a small hole in the already leaky boat that is the recording industry. Either way, all indications are that the RIAA is going to continue playing for keeps. [Daily Swarm]
