Rhymefest Loses Bid For Alderman Seat In Chicago

We reported last October that Che “Rhymefest” Smith was running for the seat of alderman of Southside Chicago’s 20th ward. This past February, it was announced that there would be a run-off election for the position as neither Fest nor his competition, Willie Cochran, gained more than 50 percent of the vote.

The run-off election was then scheduled for April 5 and it was revealed yesterday that the rapper lost his bid for the seat. The Chicago Tribune reported that he only gained 45.4 percent of the vote while Cochran received 54.6 percent and, as a result, won the election.

As the video below indicates, though, Fest and his team aren’t ready to give up just yet. His attorney, Fred Bates, announced that the election “wouldn’t be decided tonight” because there were “substantial voter regularities.” It will be interesting to see if anything comes of this and whether or not another election will be held. We will keep you updated.
