Rhymefest is going to go showtunes on that ass

(Via: Pitchfork)
Rhymefest is awesome. Seriously. His wonderfully solid debut was brimming with breakthrough talent, full of great beats and masterful lyrics. But you wouldn't know that, because you, like a whole lot of other people, didn't buy it.
So in the wake of commercial disappointment, instead of deciding that he ought to rhyme more about the crack game or something, he's popped even more of the crazy pills and announced that his follow-up to Blue Collar, to be titled El Che (Che is his given name)(okay, so maybe that's not the most creative title)(he's still awesome, though) will be adapted into a stage musical.
Excuse us while we rub our eyes in disbelief. Dude is making a musical in a hip-hop climate that rewards those who make corny revenge videos in their garages? Massive cojones this man has. He might just be our new favorite rapper.

I admire the different direction he's willing to take, but I'm worried about how this will turn out.

I respect the idea like Park, but please don't drop an Idlewild on us 'Fest.

this could very well be awful, but dude is so nutty yet charismatic i can't see it totally ruining him or anything. he certainly won't be discouraged by any bad results, i'd think...
