In their quest to document and remaster every scrap of psychedelic garage noise the 1960s could muster, Rhino releases another Nuggets box set. This set, Where the Action Is! Los Angeles Nuggets 1965-1968, limits itself to one city and four years but still turns up 101 songs on four discs, accompanied by a coffee-table book to satisfy your music nerd urges.
Where the Action Is! features such members of the classic rock pantheon as the Doors, the Byrds, and Buffalo Springfield, but the Nuggets series is about tracking down all things obscure so make like Lester Bangs and get to know the Peanut Butter Conspiracy and the Lamp of Childhood. Readjust your black-framed glasses and tell your friends how underappreciated these bands are, and that you knew about them way back when, before Rhino turned other people on to it. The set is due out September 22 on Rhino.
