A storm has erupted around the use of Heart’s “Barracuda” by Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Last week we pointed out Heart’s displeasure at Palin’s appropriation of the song, which Nancy Wilson said made her feel “completely fucked over.” The band politely asked the Republicans to stop using the song, but this story isn’t going to go away yet, because Palin has refused to listen to their pleas.Yesterday morning John McCain and Palin showed up for a rally in Lebanon, Ohio, where the strains of “Barracuda” could once again be heard. It transpires that the Party did obtain a license to use the song, which means that any venue playing it will pay a fee to the ASCAP.
This turn of events might not appease the Wilson sisters, but the song’s co-writer, Roger Fisher (who dated Nancy back in the day), has come up with an ingenious plan to cope with the problem. Fisher is a strong supporter of the Democrats, and has decided to donate some of the royalties from “Barracuda” to Barack Obama. "With my contribution to Obama's campaign, the Republicans are now supporting Obama," he said. [MTV]

That's a great way to deal with it.
