While he may not be culturally relevant anymore, 50 Cent tries quite hard to remain in the public eye with each album release. With each record after Get Rich or Die Tryin' he has resorted to increasingly bizarre marketing tactics. The Massacre was originally going to be released as The St. Valentine's Day Massacre on its titular holiday, but was postponed until early March and gave up the name. For Curtis, 50 challenged Kanye West to a sales-off, seemingly forgetting that there are far more 15-year-old girls in Kanye's fan base than his own. Now, with Before I Self Destruct (too late), 50 has come out with an iPhone application that allows fans to create remixes of his new single "Baby By Me."
The application, which is sponsored by Vitamin Water, utilizes Moderati's Romplr remix platform, which was also used for Soulja Boy's iPhone application, and allows fans to share their remixes via e-mail, Facebook and Romplr's site. Those that choose to upload to the Romplr site may have their remix selected as the best and win the opportunity to meet Curtis Jackson himself.
With this out, the most glaring problem of the iPhone is now visible: It does not allow for you to run simultaneous applications. C'mon, Apple, how is the public supposed to get Auto-Tune on their 50 Cent remix if they can't run 50's app and "I Am T-Pain" at the same time? [Tech Crunch]
