R.E.M. has confirmed the track listing and release date for their fourteenth album, Accelerate. The studio set, recorded by producer Jacknife Lee, will be released on March thirty-first and marks the first new material for the band since 2004’s Around the Sun.

The band has already tried out some of the songs live during a residency at the Olympia Theater in Dublin, and a tour of the United Kingdom is expected to be announced shortly. Though another tour in the States would be great, I’ll settle for finding out if “Mr. Richards” is about Michael Richards or Keith Richards. One made offensive comments and the other was in a pirate movie. I wonder which of these guys (or an as yet unknown third Mr. Richards) Michael Stipe found inspiring.
