Reebok commercial features Vashti Bunyan and... football players?

Football teams are about to start their training camps, so naturally they need a soundtrack to accompany their migration from faraway exotic beaches to dramatically lit stadiums across the country while wearing their Reebok shirts. But for some reason their marketing staff landed on Vashti Bunyan, and "Train Song." Who was the ad wizard that came up with that one?

I have to admit though, it works for me. Not because I have a heap of man-love for Peyton Manning or Chad Johnson, but because this commercial is awesome if you close your eyes and just listen. I mean, this is probably the only way Vashti was ever going to get on TV anyway, so who are we to hate on the bizarre pairing?

the song must've put them in a serious mood.

i wonder if Tiki regrets leaving the Giants now that they won the Super Bowl.

Giant bruisers set to gentle Vashti! That's a pairing meant for comedy and this comes across as too self serious. The video should have taken a lighter tone. Yet for some reason I liked that NBA playoff add with "House of Cards." I think it had something to do with the split-screen aesthetic.

I think the NBA split screen made it work although the spoofs of the NBA on Youtube were even better.

There were spoofs? Hmm... I'll have to check those out.

A haunting tune, "Train Song", is perfect for NFL training camps. Really, what will they find at the end of "The Train"?

Awesome marketing! I think I'll go out and buy a couple dozen Reebok's tomorrow.

I DVRed this commercial because it's pure GENIUS. I've been producing music for over 15 years and whoever the person was at ad agency that picked the track definitely knows what they're job title requires of them. Commercials are supposed to make you stop, look, listen and then buy. This is the best commerical I've seen in a very long time and it does what it's supposed to do.

Great job to the ad agency that came up with this concept. It's pure genius.

Totally agree with everyone giving kudos to the agency / creative team behind this one. I am actually on this site ONLY because I just *had* to know who was the singer behind that song, so I googled the lyrics! To find out it had been around for about 40 years was, in a word, astonishing. Very catchy ad, very catchy music, and Vashti Bunyan should be extremely grateful that her music will catch a new generation of ears thanks to Reebok, the agency, iTunes and Google.

pure genious, lyrics paralell the journey to the end to be the best & ad shows how obstacles must be overcome & the best team is at end of ad & if you notice the patriot players are second to last in the ad, just the way it went down

This commercial is great. Never heard of the singer before but loved the voice and the song. I'm sold on her and Reebok. Great marketing. Well done!
