Red Hot Chili Peppers Announce Long Term Hiatus

The fact that the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been around as long as R.E.M. is bound to make even the most sprightly and secure thirty-something feel old, and given the intermittent rumblings of extended breaks within the Chili Pepper camp since the recording of By The Way, today’s news of a long term hiatus should not come as to great a surprise to anyone. In a steady filtering of information that sounds more and more like a reluctant retirement than a momentary breather, Chad Smith told MusicRadar.com that the group’s hiatus will last at least another year, perhaps more. I may not be a prophet, but I would put good money on a worst case scenario here -- you can only pretend to be a horny teenager for so long. [Aversion]

Is the worst case scenario that they come out of retirement?
