Ratatat have finally announced a release date of August 15 for Classics; the follow-up to their 2004 self-titled effort on XL Records. Mike Stroud and Evan Mast, the Brooklyn-based masters of hodge-podge, will try to live up to that potential utilizing their signature electric guitar riffs and synth-driven beats.
Look for Ratatat to expand upon their sound by incorporating more of the sample based, hip-hop aesthetic found on the Ratatat Remixes Mixtape Vol.1. Last December, indie rocker Matt Pond called the then-incomplete album one of his most anticipated releases for 2006.
Ratatat also announced the release of a new mixtape, three singles, and a full US tour in support of their forthcoming album. The singles will be limited edition 12 vinyl releases with exclusive b-sides and remixes. As for the tour, the only announced show so far is at NYCs Bowery Ballroom on September 5, but expect the announcement of more dates in the near future. In the meantime, a couple of festival appearances are lined up for the summer:
06-28 Berlin, Germany Festaal Kreuzberg
06-30 Fribourg, Switzerland Belluard Festival
