Dilated Peoples' Rakaa Dropping Debut, 'Crown of Thorns,' July 20

After four albums doing the group thing with West Coast mainstay Dilated Peoples and spitting a load of guest verses on others' records, Rakaa Iriscience is striking out on his own. Crown of Thorns, which is due out on Decon Records, is set to feature a stripped down aesthetic and a host of high profile underground MCs and producers. Vocal duties are shared with MCs such as Fashawn, Chali 2na, Defari, and KRS-One. On the production tip, Rakaa's backed by beats from the likes of El-P, !llmind, Alchemist, Sid Roams, and fellow Dilated members Evidence and DJ Babu. Scattered production lists like that are always slightly off-putting when considering a sense of cohesion on the record, but it's likely Evidence and Babu will keep things in line.

Crown of Thorns is due out July 20.
