Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien Auctioning Off A Guitar

Radiohead fans who want to get a little closer to their heroes may be in luck. Ed O’Brien is auctioning off one of his guitars for charity—and it’s the instrument he used during recordings of Kid A and Amnesiac. The Fender Telecaster also bears autographs from all five members of the band.

The money raised by the auction will go to the Billie Butterly Fund, which has been set up to help a 4-year-old girl who has been diagnosed with brain cancer. The winning bidder will also get the following handwritten note from O’Brien:

To whoever ends up with this Tele…

It was bought in the summer of ’98, just prior to us going into record the albums which came out as Kid A and Amnesiac. It was pretty much the only guitar I used at that time. It’s also been gigged a lot, up until and including the In Rainbows tour.

Hope you enjoy it – all the best

    Ed O’Brien

Head over to eBay’s U.K. website to keep an eye on the bidding—at the time of writing this post there are still nine days left on the auction, but the price is already up to a cool £1,550.00 (around $2,480 at the current exchange rate).
