Hey, Prince, lighten up a bit, quit crying copyright violation, and let the band that wrote the song "Creep" take a look at the video footage of your excellent cover from last month at Coachella. Why? For starters, it was a great rendition. Oh, and also, the song's not yours.
In his neverending quest to tighten his grip on anything Prince-related that's posted online, the Purple one quickly had the fan-shot video footage removed from YouTube. He left a message from label NPG records claiming a copyright violation.
Thom Yorke and his mates never got a chance to see it, and they kinda wouldn't mind checking it out. Yorke said he heard about Prince's cover from a text message and thought it was "hilarious." Yorke laughed when Ed O'Brien told him that the footage was blocked when he tried to watch it.
"Really? He's blocked it? " Yorke said. "Surely we should block it. Well, tell him to unblock it. It's our ... song."
For those who didn't catch the song in its brief YouTube lifetime, fear not. A camera crew was in tow for Prince's Coachella performance. So a high-quality release of the cover could make its way to DVD some day. Of course, only if and when Prince says so. [Associated Press]
