Radiohead explain reasons for banning Amplive remix

It seems that the boys in Radiohead are not quite peeved that Amplive had planned to release a free In Rainbows remix, but they’re not necessarily jumping for joy, either.

As we reported last month, Oakland-area deejay/producer Amplive was set to release Rainydayz Remixes for free to those who bought In Rainbows. But a recent cease-and-desist letter that Radiohead's publisher sent to Amplive's label put the kibosh on that. Radiohead manager Bryce Edge told Gigwise that it basically boils down to a photo of Thom Yorke on the Amplive website. Yes, really.

"A main problem was that he (Amplive) did a cut and paste of a photo of Thom and put it on his website, which inferred he was involved in the project. When we heard that you had to send a confirmation e-mail from W.A.S.T.E to get the album, we thought, 'That's a bit naughty!' " Edge told Gigwise. "It wasn't a case of someone simply posting some remixes on a website; he was suggesting that the band were involved, and that's why the publishers decided to take this action."

Edge added: "Amplive had never even come to the band telling them about his idea, which would have been nice. I know he had good intentions, but I just think he’s misled people."

Edge also noted that management and the band will be discussing the matter further at a meeting on Tuesday, January 8. Sounds like a plan. God forbid they don't make a big deal out of next to nothing. [Gigwise]

got to agree with radio head on that one, seems like amplive was trying to cash in on them and was trying his hardest to make it look official.

It's sad that he did not contact them. A group like this is innovative enough to give you free reign over already free material. I'll bet the whole band would not have minded being on the picture if permission were asked.
I'll say this AmpLive looks pretty young, his talent is unsurmountable. So just email folks Amp and contact their people. Also don't use photos and make some money. Also it can't stop you from flossing those tunes in a club. Use that underground network. Maybe get a ticket out some where and drop it as a demo. Next year you could be the one with the Warner/Chappell contract.
I think Radiohead needs to show this talented dude some love. With the featured artist list he obviously has some producing skills.

@ Knox: Trying to cash in? He was giving it away for free.... and only to the people that supported radiohead and bought the album. I don't think money was his inspiration for this one.

and how was he supposed to contact them? I don't exactly think it'd be that easy to get in contact with them.
