LL Cool J isn’t the only person who has quickly recycled some Michael Jackson material in the last few weeks. Universal Motown has just announced an ambitious project titled Michael Jackson: The Remix Suite, which will allow various big name producers to rework classic Jackson 5 songs.
Many of the tracks have already leaked on the Internet, including the Neptunes’ subtle but distinctive reworking of “Never Can Say Goodbye.” In the lyrics to the song, Pharrell can be heard singing: "This is my mom's favorite record. I hope you don't mind me doing this."
Regular Nas collaborator Salaam Remi has turned “ABC” into a reggae song (“it's about reimagining the vibe,” he says) and other contributions—including work by Q-Tip and Ryan Leslie—are set to be unveiled soon. The collected tracks are due to be released as an album on October 27.
