Randy Bewley, guitarist for American post-punk band Pylon, died yesterday of a heart attack. Bewley was driving his van in his home base of Athens, Ga., when he slumped over, his van went off the road and flipped over.
Pylon were formed in 1978 and were instrumental in establishing Athens as an indie-rock haven in the early-80s, inspiring fellow indies like R.E.M. Pylon often toured with Gang of Four when the Gang came to America, and were among the few American bands that could be compared to the British wave of post-punk bands like Pop Group, Joy Division, Wire, and Gang of Four.
The band called it quits in 1991, but had reformed in 2005 and toured off and on. Their first album, Gyrate, was remastered by DFA and released in 2007. [Athens Banner-Herald]
