Pussy Riot Come To America, Visit “The Colbert Report”

After being released from prison two days before Christmas last year (thanks to president Putin’s amnesty bill, which may or may not have been a pre-Sochi publicity stunt), the Russian activist trio/punk group Pussy Riot are sticking to their M.O.: being upfront and vocal about their disapproval of said president’s policies.

Two of the band’s members, Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, guested on “The Colbert Report” last night. With the help of a translator, the women talked about the reasons for their incarceration and eventual acquittal, Russia’s homophobic government campaign, and learning from the American prison system. There were plenty of “shirtless hunting” Putin jokes, too, and Stephen Colbert ended the segment by putting on a neon-green Pussy Riot mask.
