'Pussy Riot Fest' Took Place Yesterday In Russia, Despite Official Pressure To Cancel

Although Russian officials were breathing down festival organizers' necks to cancel a Pussy Riot Benefit Concert, it went forward yesterday according to Associated Press.

Olga Kurnosova said city officials attempted to force her to stop Sunday's show in St. Petersburg--President Vladimir Putin's hometown--and firefighters had threatened to close down Glavklub hall, claiming safety violations.

Headlined by Russian protest bands DDT and Televizor, the "Free Pussy Riot Fest," attracted about 1,000 attendees, many of which came adorned in balaklavas, the headpieces often worn by the three Pussy Riot members who were sentenced to two years in jail last month for committing hooliganism when performing a "punk prayer" at Russia's Orthodox Church months earlier.
