Pusha T’s debut solo album, My Name Is My Name, is approaching it’s one year anniversary and the rapper is already setting his sights on what is to come. In an interview with XXL, the Virginia rapper spoke about his first solo effort, and the follow up album, King Push, that he is working on.
“I’m going for the album of the year, man, that’s it; straight up, lyric-driven of course,” says Pusha. “I feel like My Name Is My Name was very stripped down-on purpose-because I felt like people weren’t rapping enough for my taste….I want to infuse more elements of music into King Push; paint the pictures and smash them with the lyrics.”
Pusha also stated that he is about six songs into the album, and that he plans on making this one bigger than his last, but that means the beats have to be right. “I don’t make records and say ‘oh, that one falls short of the bar.'”
The album will once again be executive produced by Kanye West, and Pusha says that he has already worked with Pharrell, Nottz, Needlz, Dom $olo, Hudson Mohawke and Baauer.
