The Smashing Pumpkins will release a four-song acoustic EP via iTunes on January 2 entitled American Gothic. That day you can also download the artwork for free here.
The songs were recorded in a Los Angeles studio while on a tour break this year. “We have always regretted not recording more in between tours because the albums have never caught the full story of the group,” Billy Corgan said. The title, he says, is “continued comment on the state of our country.”
“I had written a bunch of material during the residencies in Asheville and San Francisco [earlier this year]” Corgan adds, “and fans kept asking us if we were gonna put any of that stuff out. iTunes came to us wanting to do something, so it just felt right.”
Corgan has performed solo one of the songs, “The Rose March,” occasionally on tour. And it got the Pete Townshend seal of approval in November when Corgan performed it as part of a series of shows organized by Townshend’s girlfriend and songwriter partner Rachel Fuller. “Afterwards, Pete came up to me and asked me if we were putting that song on Zeitgeist. I told him we weren’t and he told me I was crazy. That stuck with me—Pete certainly knows more than I.”
Track list:
The Rose March
Pox
Again, Again, Again (The Crux)
Sunkissed

Did anyone like that last album? I have almost no interest in listening to anything Corgan releases.
