Prince caught up in Proposition 8 debate

The Proposition 8 ruling has remained a hot topic since the November 4 election (for those who aren’t familiar, it overturned gay marriage in California), and while doing a profile of Prince’s house, a New Yorker reporter opted to ask Prince how he felt about the ruling (and abortion rights). In response, Prince tapped his bible and had this to say:

"God came to earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever, and he just cleared it all out. He was, like, 'Enough.'"

Well, that seems like a pretty straightforward quote delivered with the appropriate nastiness, but now Prince is claiming he was misquoted, the reporter never used a recorder, and made the quote up.

So all this means one of two things: either Prince is against gay marriage, and doesn’t want his fans to know about that, or he is for gay marriage, and regrets his quote. We probably won’t ever know. [Perez Hilton]

Since so many Prince fans are now aware of the "sticking it" quote, Prince has a choice:

a). allow the quote to stand (in the public mind, anyway) as his opinion, or
b). make an official statement affirming, clarifying, or repudiating it.

(I'd like to hope that Prince's adoption of the JW religion hasn't poisoned his mind, but I've been overly optimistic before...)

F*ck Prince. I'll never buy another of his (lame) CDs...

I'm confused by Prince. His music has always preached this personal, sexual, and social freedom but then one day he just found the bible? And i must say, following the "Little Richard Al Green" paradigm Prince is possibly overdue for his "post-I-found-god" reclamation of his old nasty ways.

So cast off your bullsh*t Prince! Put on some lace and pearls and write the songs that get us laid when we're too lazy to try!

I know a number of gay men who will be burning all their Prince CD's right about now. Burning in the literal sense, not the digital sense.

I do find it a little suspicious that they've said that Prince was misquoted but didn't actually go as far as to say that the quote misrepresents his actual feelings. He has a right to feel how he wants but the hypocrisy is staggering coming from someone like Prince.

I really find it hard to believe that Prince is against the rights of individuals. He's based his entire life on that fundemental idea. I also heard that the New Yorker reporter who quoted him left out another larger piece of the interview. Je asked Prince who he voted for and Prince stated he didn't want to discuss politics. The the reported asked P if he voted for Obama and if so did he because he was black like him? If I were Prince, I totally would be pissed at where the reporterwas going with that. And in total Prince fashion, he replied 'Am I Black?" and then lifted his shirt sleeve to his skin color to the reporter's, the reporter's was darker. For anyone to assume that a person of color voted for Obama because he's Black is just ignorant. I'm Native Americn and Spanish and I voted for Obama simply because I agreed with his policys and I felt he was the best man for the job, simple as that. I believe Prince voted for Obama for the same reason, although I'll never know for sure. I still LOVE this remarkable and brilliant musician/artist named Prince and always will!!!

GO PRINCE! Maybe this will shut the people up that say he's gay. 99% of hollywood and celebrities are so freaking liberal that it's sickening. It doesnt take any guts or backbone to be liberal. Prince is the man! (though sometimes he doesnt look very manly lol) He's still the best rock star of all time!

I will not support Prince, the "Artist", The Symbol, The NPG or whatver ridiculous title he has decided to embrace for the moment. Prince is the biggest hypocrit of them all. He spouts phrases from the bible while singing songs about sex, masturbation, and androgeny. He makes homophobic statements while wearing lace, lipstick and more eyeliner than most hookers. The only way he can make the headlines these days is by his ridiculous ego-maniacal actions, and Jehovah's Witness ramblings - not for his music. I will put my Prince CD'S in the folder marked 1999 because that is the last time he was cool, sane, or socially relevant. Step aside little man (little girlie man) - you are yesterday's news with yesterday's ideals. How dare you write Slave on your face and then turn around and oppose equal rights for everyone!! If you really belived in liberty and justice for all - you would have the guts to stand up for everyone who is repressed. Prince and the Revolution - what a joke. There will be no changes with narrow-minds like his.

Right on, Prince. We know the world is upside down right now...remember Sodom & Gommorah - history repeats.

The world is not upside down... the manual is in play by those who run the game.
