Prince banks major cash for Coachella performance

All those high heels and pirate shirts don’t pay for themselves. Prince, who in recent years has headlined in Vegas and shown up at the Super Bowl, added another major event to his resume by signing to headline Coachella for a reported $4.8 million. According to blogger and SXSW attendee Perez Hilton, the signing of the purple one was an attempt to "sell more tickets and make up for a less than stellar — in comparison to years past — roster of performers.” Though everyone, even Perez, is entitled to his or her opinion, with Aphex Twin, the Raconteurs, Death Cab for Cutie, Portishead, My Morning Jacket, and The Breeders already confirmed, the Purple One seems like the icing on the cake instead of the last minute savior. Coachella will take place April 25-27 at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California. Tickets are available from the festival’s website. [Gigwise]

$4.9 million??? Holy crap. That's probably close to the combined amount for all the other artists combined.
