While Mani’s away, Debbie Googe will play. As Gary “Mani” Mountfield prepares to party likes it’s 1989 with The Stone Roses eagerly awaited reunion shows happening across Europe this summer, Primal Scream have enlisted My Bloody Valentine bassist Debbie Googe to fill in. Googe, a founding member of the seminal shoegazers, will kick off her tenure in the Scream with gigs in Scotland this June, before the band support The Stone Roses in the first of their three homecoming shows in Manchester on June 29. Mani joined Primal Scream in 1996, after the ailing Roses spectacularly flat lined at that year’s Reading Festival, a performance that left fans squirming by the masses and some, literally, in tears. Whether Mani’s absence, or for that matter, The Stone Roses reunion, is permanent isn’t clear, though Primal Scream front man Bobby Gillespie is keen to note that all is well, telling the NME that, “it’s a really cool thing."
