The Pretenders are getting set to hit the road early next year to begin their first big tour since 2003. Doubly fortunate for fans is the fact that the band is touring on the heels of an excellent new album, Break Up the Concrete. While Chrissie Hynde and stalwart drummer Martin Chambers (whose sideburns should have their own place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame) represent the founding contingent of the touring band, the rest of the ensemble consists of players who took part in the Concrete sessions. Guitarist James Walbourne previously played with the Pernice Brothers, while pedal steel man Eric Heywood -- who lends the album a distinct twang -- has worked with everyone from Son Volt to Alejandro Escovedo, and bass player Nick Wilkinson has been a Pretender since 2006. The band will be bringing a mix of Pretenders classics and brand new tunes coast to coast from January through March.
