Usually, it’s much easier to sit in a studio or even a bedroom together and write good quality songs. Well, in the case of Favored Nations – the trio was able to put together songs from continents apart. When New Yorker Morgan Phalen (who has contributed vocals to Justice’s sophomore album Audio Video Disco) had met Australian James Curd semi-third of the way in Los Angeles the two had instant chemistry. And once back home in Australia, Curd and multi-instrumentalist Surahn were set to create some fantastic songs that would complement the vocalist. The ending results were fused in their new project Favored Nations. Talk long distance about collaboration.
Listen to their track “Blame Game” and you’ll hear that the distance was worth it. The bubbly fun production with its sweet sugary hooks made of poppy synths, disco bass lines and four on the floor drum beats, and Phalen’s vocals make it irresistible.
The track comes off their Blame Game EP (which features production work from Joey Waronker who has worked with the likes of Atoms for Peace, M83 and Beck).
