Beloved pint-sized superheroes, the Powerpuff Girls, return with a vengeance later this year. Cartoon Network recently announced the "re-designed and reimagined" series will feature CG animation and one less writer (Craig McCraken is not tied to the reboot and is currently involved with a new project over at Disney). Manning the helm is director Dave Smith (Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory) and award-winning art director Kevin Dart; Cathy Cavadini, Tara Strong and E.G. Daily will reprise their roles as the voices of Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, respectively.
Also joining the cast is Ringo Starr as Fibonacci Sequins. Yes. He's a "flamboyant" mathematician and, one can only hope, somehow also Liberace (of course he has a fancy song called "I Wish I Was a Powerpuff Girl").
The folks at Bleeding Cool think the image above is a sample of the new CG-infused update (nothing's been confirmed). It looks a bit "eh," but could translate better in motion (it also could be complete bogus) with a little more spice, if you know what I mean (G-rated).
Stay tuned to Cartoon Network for updates.
