Post Malone’s Stoney standout track “Congratulations” featuring Quavo recently went platinum. The triumphant song hit the Billboard Hot 100, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. To continue riding the wave, Post has tapped Future for its remix.
Instrumentally, the original song is mostly intact, with the exception of some subtle production changes. Future delivers a passionate performance over the buoyant beat. His voice feels bruised and forlorn, but still devoted to turning up, looking forward, and celebrating. He harmonizes with Post on the chorus, singing, “Now they always say congratulations / Worked so hard, forgot how to vacation.” Post and Quavo both deliver their original verses, however, the song’s outro features a more downtempo ending. The final hook replaces bass-booming drums for minimal ambience and dreamy synths. Future’s AutoTune’d voice sings, “Worked so hard I need my medication / All it took was dedication / Driving for us with no registration / Oh, we made it.” It’s quintessential Future — fighting pain with drugs, all while celebrating his enormous success.
This Future-featuring remix has enough differences from the original to offer something new, but it’s not so different that fans of the original version can’t enjoy the track’s evolution. And speaking of remixes, Future’s hit song, “Mask Off,” was recently re-imagined with an epic verse from Kendrick Lamar. Hip-hop has a tendency to reinvent our favorite songs with other artists breathing new life into beloved hits like “Congratulations.”
The Houston artist Post Malone is still riding the high of his debut album; however, he’s still hard at work on new music. His forthcoming album Beerbongs & Bentleys is rumored to be dropping very soon.
As for Future, the Atlanta rapper is currently on his ‘Nobody Safe’ tour with several artists, such as Tory Lane, Migos, and A$AP Ferg. Check out the tour dates and buy tickets here.
