The patrons of Mr Wolfs in Bristol, England must have received quite the shock on Sunday night. Expecting a set from some faceless group called Grumpy Man DJs, they were instead treated to a surpise performance by Portishead. This was the first time the band had played a gig since the Tsunami Benefit Show in 2005. What's more, the band played some new material during the course of its brief set. Portishead has, of course, not released a new album since 1997.
So how were the new songs? According to someone in attendance, "It was a brief, but memorable experience. If the new song is a measure of the quality of the forthcoming album, Portishead fans are in for a treat later this year."
