Punk legend Poly Styrene, best known as singer of early punk group X-Ray Spex, has been diagnosed with cancer, according to a statement released on her website. The singer, real name Marian Joan Elliott-Said, did not disclose the details of her disease, only noting that she is "undergoing various treatments" to beat it.
This is an especially sad development given that she is set to release a new album, Generation Indigo, on March 28. The album will still be released, but Styrene won't be able to commit to any live appearances for the near future. Her statement called the record "a very positive force in her current journey."
She also tweeted about the diagnosis and thanked her fans for their support: "Hoping & praying I can fight this cancer. Thank u all 4 ur positive vibes, I'm overwhelmed, ur keeping me in the land of living Luv Poly X"
We're certainly hoping for the best for her and her family.
