Last night, Pete Rock and Smif N Wessun celebrated the release of their collaborative effort, Monumental, like most rappers -- and artists in any genre, really -- with an album release party. From what I have read, what went down inside the venue was a rather peaceful event with everyone just hanging out and enjoying the gritty boom-bap record.
But outside of the club or nearby, apparently some fools started fighting and, eventually, the cops got involved. And according to the user who uploaded the above footage, "the police entered the building ordering people to leave because of the fight on the street." Toward the end of the video, Steele, one half of Smif N Wessun, addresses the issue directly by saying, "The police came and stormed the place, telling us to get out. Then they started beating on people."
Yeesh. Hopefully more information from this event will be released, including just why the officers chose to enter the venue and kick everyone out. We'll keep you updated.
Monumental is out now.
