Polaris Music Prize announces shortlist of nominees

The three-year old Polaris Music Prize, which gives the makers of Canada’s best album $20,000, has announced its 2007 nominees. The most noticeable omission is Random Spirit Lover by Sunset Rubdown.

Here’s the shortlist of nominees:
    * Black Mountain - In The Future
    * Plants And Animals - Parc Avenue
    * Basia Bulat - Oh, My Darling
    * Stars - In Our Bedroom After The War
    * Caribou - Andorra
    * Shad - The Old Prince
    * Kathleen Edwards - Asking For Flowers
    * Two Hours Traffic - Little Jabs
    * Holy Fuck - LP
    * The Weakerthans - Reunion Tour
Among this group it’s hard to call who’s going to take it, but perhaps the prize should go to Wolf Parade retroactively after the band got snubbed in 2005 when the committee awarded Final Fantasy the prize over Apologies to the Queen Mary.

Hey Andrew. Thanks for the coverage.

You should note that Arcade Fire were nominated last year. And Handsome Furs fell under last year's eligibility period.

Hey Steve,
We've taken the following part out of the post:
"Among the noticeable omissions are two albums made by portions of Wolf Parade (Sunset Rubdown and Handsome Furs) and the Arcade Fire’s Neon Bible."

Thanks.

* Caribou - Andorra
