PLUG announces nominees, Justice on top of the heap
The PLUG Independent Music Awards has announced its 2008 nominees, and fans (that means you) can vote online through February 8. The ceremony and concert is set for March 6 in NYC. All nominees were picked by the PLUG Advisory Board, also known as the ''"PLUG Cartel,''" which is made up of ''"key tastemakers recognized by the music community as those who fight most to raise the voice of independent artists and releases in every medium." A complete list of 2008 PLUG Cartel members is here. Justice lead the pack with seven nominations. Arcade Fire and Of Montreal garnered six nominations, and Band of Horses, EL-P, The National and Spoon have five each.

Those metal nominees are pretty awesome. Maybe a lil' too heavy on the indie metal label standbys Relapse/Hydra Head/Southern Lord, but that's awesome that they're showing Watain and Wolves in the Throne Room some love. Them and Baroness put out three of my favorite metal releases this year.
